A student is required to register for courses in accordance with the level of programmer of study fixed. The level of programmer of study fixed is determined by the credit completed by the student as follows:

A student is required to register within the time frame stipulated. The activities involved in the registration process are per the table as follows:

A student is given a period of two weeks from the date of commencement of semester to complete course registration.
Should a student not register within the time frame stated then the academic status of the student expires.
A student shall register courses based on the structure of the student’s programmer of study. Any course which is registered other than stipulated in the structure of program of study shall not be considered for the purpose of completion of the degree.

What are the minimum and maximum credits I can register in one semester?

Maximum credits
1. As a general rule the maximum credits that can be taken in a normal semester is 20 credits and 9 credits for special semester.
2. A new student is limited to taking not more than 18 credits in their first semester for their programmer of study unless otherwise approved by Senate.
3. The number of credits does not include courses which are audited.
Minimum credits
1. The minimum number of credits that can be taken in a normal semester is 6 credits. Registration for less than 6 credits shall require approval by the Dean of the Faculty of the programmer of study.
2. For cases after the end of the minimum period of programmer of study and /or for the purposes of fulfillment of graduation requirements a student may register less than the minimum number of credit stipulated.
A student may register for more than 20 credits but not more than 22 credits in any Normal Semester after the first semester of his programmer of study subject to the student applying for and obtaining the approval of the Dean of the Faculty of the programmer of study.
A student in the final stage may make an official application to the Dean of the Faculty of the student programmer of study for an exemption to register for more than 22 credits in any Normal Semester for the purpose of graduating in the semester concerned.
A student in the middle stage who intends to complete his studies so as to graduate in the semester concerned may apply officially to the Dean of the Faculty of the student programmer of study to register for more than 22 credits in a Normal Semester or more than 9 credits in a Special Semester if the following requirements are fulfilled:
1. is not under an academic probationary period in the semester concerned; and
2. has a CGPA of not lower than 3.00 for the previous semester before the registration concerned.
In the semester during which a student is placed under an academic probationary period, the student concerned is not allowed to register for more than 12 credits. The application to register for more than 12 credits must be made officially to the Dean of the Faculty for his consideration and approval.
Application to register for extra credits must be made latest by the end of the first week of lectures of the semester concerned.

How can I get credit exemption or credit transfer?

Exemption of Credit
1. “Exemption of credit” means exemption from registration and attendance of a course that is prescribed for a particular programmer of study based on a course taken by a student prior to his admission into the programmer of study of the University.
2. The course approved for exemption of credits shall be awarded a grade K and the credit shall not be taken into account in the calculation of the GPA and CGPA though taken into account for the purpose of completion of degree.
3. For the purposes of credit exemption, a student shall submit the following:
  1. If the application is based on qualification at the level of Professional Certificate / Diploma, the student shall produce a copy of the Professional Certificate or Diploma which has been obtained. The course must be from a professional certificate/ diploma which have been awarded in the period within the preceding five (5) years from the admission session of the student into the University.
  2. If the student did not complete the study of a first degree level, the student has to have had at least followed the course concerned successfully and produce the examination result slip or partial transcript of the previous programmer of study . The course has to have been taken within the preceding five (5) years from the academic session of the student into the University.
4. The application shall be made within the first two semesters of programmer of study.
5. A course which has been approved for credit exemption cannot be registered again by a student for the purpose of improving CGPA. The student is only allowed to audit the course.
Transfer of Credit
1. “Transfer of credit” means the transfer of credit together with the grades obtained for a course taken by a student after his admission into a programmer of study at the University.
2. The credit obtained together with the grade and grade point for the course concerned shall be taken into account in the calculation of the student’s GPA and CGPA.
3. The course from which the credit is applied to be transferred shall be a course from a programmer of study which is of equivalent standing with the programmer of study which is taken in the University.
Approval for the exemption and transfer of credit is subject to, among others, the following conditions:
1. the course for which the transfer of credit is applied has at least 75% overlap with the course that is offered at the University;
2. the grade or grade point obtained for the course concerned is not lower than C or 2.00;
3. the course applied has the same credit value as the course offered by the University.
4. the student has completed the course successfully with (at least) a pass grade for the course concerned in accordance with the University grading system.
5. the maximum credit that can be transferred and/or exempted shall not exceed one-third of the total credits of the total credits of the programmer of study concerned with an exemption for professional programmers that are administered by the respective professional bodies.
A student who has been given the approval to transfer programmer of study may be considered for the transfer of credit with the condition that the grade or grade point obtained for the course concerned is not lower than C or 2.00.

The method of equivalency comparability of a university course with a course from another institution are as follows:

A combination of a few courses at final and middle stage of another university.

First Degree

The course has to be equivalent with:

At least one course at an equivalent stage or a higher stage from another institution; or

A combination of a few courses at the same stage or at a higher stage from another institution.

Courses taken during a student exchange programmer which is not listed in the structure of the programmer of study can be considered to be transferred credit subject to the course concerned fulfilling the condition stated under paragraph (3) (b) and obtain the recommendation of the Dean of the Faculty of a student programmer of study as to whether the course:
1. replaces any course in the programmer of study. For this purpose, the grade and the grade point will be taken in the calculation of the GPA and CGPA; or
2. does not replace any course which has been scheduled in the programmer of study. The course will be recorded in the student’s academic transcript. For this purpose, the grade and the grade point of the course concerned will be considered in the calculation of GPA and CGPA
The application to transfer or exempt credit shall be made to the Dean of Faculty of the programmer of study not later than Friday of the second lecture week in a Normal Semester using the procedure prescribed by the University.
The application must be accompanied by:
1. the payment of the processing fee at the fixed rate. This payment is non refundable
2. compulsory supporting documentation which is the course learning outcomes, syllabus or course content and the grading scheme of the course applied for transfer or exemption of credit.
3. The decision on the application for the transfer and/or credit exemption of the student shall be communicated by the Registrar or Dean of the Faculty of the programmer of study.
